Semarang Immigration Tightens Foreigner Monitoring After Love Scam Case

The Class I Special Immigration Office (TPI) in Semarang, Central Java, has announced plans to tighten monitoring of foreign nationals following the exposure of a 'love scam' syndicate case allegedly involving four wanted Chinese nationals.

Haryono Susilo, head of the office's Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Section, said the case underscores the importance of strengthening the surveillance system for the presence and activities of foreigners in Indonesia. According to him, the office will improve immigration intelligence capabilities, tighten monitoring of foreign nationals, and expand information sharing with law enforcement agencies and diplomatic missions of friendly nations.

The measures aim to prevent Indonesia from being used as a hideout or operational base for transnational crime networks. Haryono also called on the public to play an active role by reporting any suspicious presence or activity of foreign nationals through official complaint channels.

While this specific case occurred in Semarang, it reflects a broader trend of Indonesian immigration authorities intensifying oversight of foreigners nationwide, which could eventually affect visa and residency checks in other regions, including Bali.
