President Prabowo Takes Lead on North Bali Airport Project as Government Moves to Accelerate Development
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has begun directly overseeing efforts to advance the long-planned North Bali International Airport, according to the Presidential Chief of Staff. Following an expression of support from traditional Balinese royal representatives, the government scheduled a coordination meeting in Jakarta on July 30 involving Bali's governor and relevant ministers. The airport is listed as a strategic project in Indonesia's 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan, aimed at balancing development between northern and southern Bali.
Indonesian Presidential Chief of Staff Gen. (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman announced on Wednesday that President Prabowo Subianto is personally overseeing efforts to move forward with construction of the North Bali International Airport. The statement was made during a meeting with traditional Balinese royal representatives and officials from PT. BIBU Panji Sakti at Puri Ageng Buahbatuh in Gianyar.
According to Dudung, the president responded quickly after Balinese royal representatives visited the presidential office to express support for the airport project. Prabowo reportedly instructed Aries Marsudiyanto, head of the Development Control and Special Investigation Agency (Bappisus), to follow up, who then contacted Dudung to prepare next steps.
As a result, a coordination meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, at 9:00 a.m. local time in Jakarta, involving Bali Governor Wayan Koster, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, and Bappisus chief Aries Marsudiyanto. Dudung expressed hope that the project would proceed smoothly, calling it an effort to create a development balance between northern and southern Bali.
The North Bali International Airport is listed as a strategic national project under Indonesia's 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), formalized through Presidential Regulation No. 12/2025, signed by President Prabowo on February 10, 2025. This follows the president's earlier commitment made in Sanur on November 3, 2024, to build the airport.
