Police Investigate Cause of Fire at Bali Airport's International Terminal

A fire broke out on the night of Thursday, July 30, at a tenant outlet on the second floor of the international terminal at Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar, Bali. According to police, the blaze started from a meat grill machine that experienced abnormal temperature fluctuations before flames intensified and spread through an exhaust ventilation system.

An employee noticed the fire, immediately turned off the stove and exhaust panel, and attempted initial firefighting with a portable fire extinguisher. While the fire at the grill itself was put out, flames remaining inside the exhaust duct were harder to reach, prompting workers to remove parts of the ceiling to allow firefighters access.

Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel then arrived and continued firefighting efforts, while the terminal's automatic sprinkler system activated to help prevent the fire from spreading further. The fire was fully extinguished at around 10:10 p.m. local time, followed by smoke removal using blowers.

Police secured the scene, set up a police line, collected evidence, and questioned several witnesses. No deaths or injuries were reported, and material losses are temporarily estimated at about Rp10 million (around US$610). Investigators from the airport police unit are continuing to examine the evidence to determine the exact cause of the fire.
