Ngurah Rai Airport Serves 15.5 Million Passengers Jan-Aug 2026, Commits to Improved Service

Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport served 15.5 million passengers from January to August 2026, comprising 10 million international and 5.5 million domestic travelers. Singapore was the top international route, while Australian tourists led foreign arrivals. The airport has also launched a new international-domestic transfer bridge to improve connectivity.

Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport in Mangupura reported serving a total of 15.5 million passengers from January to August 2026, consisting of 10 million international and 5.5 million domestic travelers. Aircraft movements during the period reached approximately 94,000 flights, split between 52,000 international and 42,000 domestic movements.

Nugroho Jati, General Manager of Ngurah Rai Airport under Angkasa Pura Indonesia, noted that with roughly 64,000 passenger movements per day, Bali remains a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers.

For international routes, Singapore ranked highest with 1.7 million passengers (18% of total international traffic), followed by Kuala Lumpur (1 million), Perth (794,000), Melbourne (731,000), and Sydney (574,000). On the domestic side, Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport led with 2.5 million passengers (45% of domestic traffic), followed by Surabaya (865,000), Labuan Bajo (383,000), Lombok Praya (308,000), and Makassar (296,000).

According to data from the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, 4.7 million foreign tourists arrived in Bali through the airport during this period. Australian passport holders topped the list with 1.1 million visitors, followed by China (418,000), India (363,000), the United Kingdom (206,000), and South Korea (203,000).

As of the end of August, the airport served 65 routes total — 41 international routes operated by 44 airlines, and 24 domestic routes by 11 airlines. On August 17, the airport officially opened a new transfer bridge connecting the international and domestic terminals, aimed at reducing transfer times and streamlining procedures for passengers connecting between international arrivals and domestic flights within Indonesia, and vice versa.

Things to Consider

Travelers connecting through Bali to other Indonesian cities (such as Jakarta, Surabaya, or Labuan Bajo) should check signage for the new international-domestic transfer bridge, which can reduce connection times. Given the airport handles over 64,000 passengers daily during peak periods, arrive at least 3 hours before both international and domestic departures, and use online check-in where possible to avoid congestion.
