New Direct Denpasar-Phuket Flight Announced in Indonesia-Thailand Leaders' Meeting
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced new direct flight routes between Jakarta-Bangkok and Denpasar (Bali)-Phuket, as part of broader tourism and investment cooperation. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on August 3 during the Second Leaders' Consultation at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta that new direct flight routes will be opened between Jakarta and Bangkok, and between Denpasar (Bali) and Phuket. Both leaders welcomed the move as a way to strengthen people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Beyond the new flight routes, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Indonesian airline TransNusa covering tourism and connectivity investment. Private sector cooperation was also formalized through an MoU between Bio Axel and Pro Consilium on organic waste processing projects.
PM Anutin explained that the new Bangkok-Jakarta and Phuket-Bali routes will focus on health tourism, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions), and cruise tourism. The two leaders also agreed on a Roadmap for the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership 2026-2030, aiming to expand cooperation in agriculture, food processing, sustainable fisheries, halal industry, energy, services, and the digital economy.
The announcement did not specify a launch date, flight frequency, or the operating airline for the new Denpasar-Phuket route.
