MotoGP Mandalika Set to Boost Bali Tourism Ahead of October 2026 Race
Bali's hotel and restaurant association (PHRI) says the upcoming MotoGP Mandalika race in Lombok, scheduled for October 9-11, 2026, is expected to benefit Bali's tourism sector as teams and spectators often stay in Bali due to limited accommodation in Lombok, with many extending their trips afterward.
Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, chairman of Bali's chapter of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), known as Cok Ace, said in September that the upcoming MotoGP Mandalika race—scheduled for October 9-11, 2026, at the Mandalika Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara—is expected to benefit Bali's tourism industry.
According to Cok Ace, although the race takes place in Lombok, limited accommodation capacity in West Nusa Tenggara means many spectators, race teams, and crew members choose to stay in Bali instead. Based on past events, visitors typically extend their stay in Bali by two to three days after the race concludes to enjoy additional leisure time.
PHRI Bali characterizes these MotoGP-related visitors as "high-quality tourists" with relatively strong spending power. South Bali areas such as Nusa Dua remain the primary base for accommodation due to convenient air and sea access, though destinations like Ubud continue to attract day-trip visitors during their stay.
PHRI Bali also noted that as of mid-September, the average hotel occupancy rate across Bali stood at 68%, with Sanur exceeding 80%.
Things to Consider
If planning a visit to Bali around early October 2026, book accommodation in South Bali areas like Nusa Dua and Sanur well in advance, as hotel rates and occupancy are likely to rise around the MotoGP Mandalika race dates (October 9-11) and in the following days when many attendees extend their stay. Consider alternative areas like Ubud if South Bali options are limited or pricier during this period.
