Jembrana Police Arrest Illegal Cigarette Seller, Seize Thousands of Packs
Jembrana Police in Bali arrested a shop owner in Gilimanuk for selling illegal cigarettes, seizing 2,314 packs of various brands. The suspect has been handed over to Denpasar Customs Office for further legal processing under excise tax violation charges.
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Jembrana Police in Bali announced on Thursday the arrest of a shop owner selling illegal cigarettes in Gilimanuk. According to Criminal Investigation Chief AKP I Gede Alit Darmana, the suspect, identified by the initial N and originating from Pejarakan Village, Gerokgak Sub-district, Buleleng Regency, was found with 2,314 packs of illegal cigarettes across multiple brands including Albaik, Pitoe, King Marmut, Jangger, Angker, New Casteel, Manchester, UC, Luxio, Balveer, and MTJ.
The case came to light following a public report. Police handed over the suspect and evidence to the Denpasar Customs Office for further legal processing. The suspect is alleged to have violated excise tax regulations under Indonesia's Law No. 39 of 2007, an amendment to Law No. 11 of 1995 concerning Excise.
Police stated they will continue strengthening cooperation with customs authorities to ensure fair business practices. This case involved a local distribution network within Jembrana Regency and did not directly involve foreign tourists.
