ITDC Builds Groins to Protect Nusa Dua Coastline from Erosion
State tourism developer ITDC is constructing two groins along the Peninsula Island coastline in Nusa Dua, Bali, to protect against beach erosion. The project also includes road upgrades and improved access to Waterblow, with construction progress reaching 58.53% as of early September 2026.
State-owned tourism developer PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia (ITDC) is building coastal protection structures known as groins in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, to guard against beach erosion. Two groins, made of sand and rock, are being installed around the coastline of Peninsula Island in Nusa Dua.
According to I Made Agus Dwiatmika, ITDC's General Manager for Nusa Dua, the project is part of broader efforts to improve the overall quality of the area. Alongside the groins, the company is upgrading roads, improving access to the Peninsula area and Waterblow, installing wastewater and drainage infrastructure, and building access roads to Nusa Dharma Island.
As of the first week of September 2026, physical construction progress reached 58.53%, a significant jump from the previous 23.7%. The Nusa Dua tourism area maintains about 97 hectares of green space (27% of the total area), with more than 5,700 trees from 138 species. The area also uses a system that treats and reuses wastewater for irrigating green spaces. Officials said the goal is not just to improve appearance but also functionality, comfort, and environmental quality.
