Indonesia's Foreign Tourist Arrivals Reach 10.58 Million Through August 2026, Up 5.38% Year-on-Year

Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism reported that foreign tourist arrivals reached 10.58 million from January to August 2026, a 5.38% year-on-year increase. In August alone, 1.6 million visitors arrived, up 6.27% from the same month last year, with growth driven largely by increases from Southeast Asia and other Asian markets.

Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism announced that cumulative foreign tourist arrivals (wisman) reached 10.58 million through August 2026, marking a 5.38% increase compared to the same period last year. Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said August alone saw 1.6 million arrivals, up 6.27% year-on-year.

By region, visitors from other parts of Asia grew 8.41%, Southeast Asia rose 7.75%, and Oceania increased 7.36%. Notably, arrivals from the Middle East, which had previously been declining, returned to positive growth with a cumulative increase of 1.30% as regional conditions improved.

Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa also reported on domestic tourism (wisnus), noting that August 2026 saw 104.30 million domestic trips, an 11.47% increase from the same month last year. Cumulatively from January to August 2026, domestic trips totaled 842.15 million, up 4.29% year-on-year.

The ministry stated that strong domestic demand continues to support the overall resilience of Indonesia's tourism sector, and it will continue promoting the '#diIndonesiaAja' campaign to encourage domestic travel while distributing tourist visits more broadly across the country. This national-level data includes Bali, though no Bali-specific figures were provided in this report.

Things to Consider

This data reflects nationwide trends rather than Bali-specific conditions, but given the overall growth in visitor numbers, travelers should expect continued crowding at popular destinations and book accommodations well in advance. Consider traveling during shoulder seasons or securing reservations early to avoid peak-period congestion.
