Garuda Indonesia and InJourney Offer 170,845 Free Domestic Flights to Foreign Tourists
Garuda Indonesia and InJourney will offer approximately 170,845 free domestic flight seats to foreign tourists holding Garuda international round-trip tickets, running from August to the end of November 2026. The program aims to reduce tourist concentration in Bali and Jakarta by encouraging visits to other destinations like Yogyakarta and Lombok.
Indonesia's state-owned tourism company PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (InJourney) and flag carrier Garuda Indonesia have announced a joint program to encourage foreign tourists to explore destinations beyond Bali and Jakarta. Foreign travelers holding Garuda Indonesia international round-trip tickets can access free domestic flights under the program, which runs from August through the end of November 2026, offering a total of 170,845 seats.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, about 70% of foreign visitors to Indonesia arrive by air, with Bali remaining the largest gateway at roughly 40% of arrivals, followed by Jakarta at about 17%. The program aims to redistribute tourist flows from these two hubs to other destinations such as Yogyakarta, Central Java, and Lombok.
InJourney Senior Vice President Yudhistira Setiawan emphasized that tourism success should not be measured solely by visitor numbers, but also by length of stay, number of destinations visited, and tourist spending. Data from the second quarter of 2026 showed foreign tourists stayed an average of about 10 nights and spent approximately US$1,285 on average.
For tourists currently in Bali, this program offers an opportunity to visit other regions of Indonesia—such as Yogyakarta (home to Borobudur and Prambanan temples) or Lombok (home to the Mandalika MotoGP circuit)—without additional flight costs.
