G20 Summit Wraps Up: Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport Successfully Completes Special Operations
PT Angkasa Pura I officially closed its integrated monitoring post for the G20 Summit on November 18, 2022, after successfully handling arrivals and departures of world leaders' aircraft during the summit held November 15-16 in Bali. The company reported that regular commercial flights at Ngurah Rai Airport and eight other supporting airports continued smoothly despite the special security arrangements.
Indonesian airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I officially closed its "G20 Summit Integrated Monitoring Post" at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on November 18, 2022. The closing ceremony was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other related agencies, with eight supporting airports joining online.
The G20 Summit was held in Bali on November 15-16, 2022, bringing together heads of state and international organization leaders. The closure of the monitoring post marks the successful completion of arrival and departure operations for these dignitaries' aircraft. The aircraft carrying the President of Suriname was the last leader's plane served by Ngurah Rai Airport, and it departed without incident.
At the closing ceremony, officials including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consular Director, the commander of the G20 Airport Security Task Force, Airnav Indonesia's Operations Director, and the head of Airport Authority Region IV praised Angkasa Pura I's efforts. Company President Director Faik Fahmi stated that beyond providing top-tier service to delegations, the company successfully maintained smooth and secure airport operations, particularly at Ngurah Rai, without significant obstacles.
During the monitoring post's operational period from November 10-17, a total of 115 delegation aircraft placements were recorded across nine airports, both for leaders' primary aircraft and supporting planes. Ngurah Rai Airport handled the most with 69 aircraft, followed by Juanda Airport in Surabaya with 24, and Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang with 9.
Despite the intensive handling of delegation flights, Angkasa Pura I also maintained regular commercial flight operations. During the flight restriction period of November 13-17, Ngurah Rai Airport served 1,622 commercial flight movements (893 domestic and 729 international routes), with total passenger movements reaching 190,470 (92,750 domestic and 97,720 international), averaging 38,094 passengers per day.
Fahmi thanked all stakeholders, including airlines and ground handling companies, for their cooperation in ensuring both regular commercial flights and G20 delegation flights operated safely and smoothly.
