Flores Fuel Terminal Resumes Manual Operations After NTT Quake; Labuan Bajo Fuel Supply Maintained via Alternate Route

On August 15, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, damaging the Reo fuel terminal operated by Pertamina Patra Niaga in Manggarai Regency, Flores Island. According to the company's regional communications manager for East Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, repair teams arrived on-site immediately after the quake on August 15 and began infrastructure repairs in the early hours of August 16.

The Reo terminal has not yet fully resumed normal operations. Fuel loading onto tanker trucks, normally managed through an integrated digital system, is currently being handled manually while the company works to restore its network.

The Reo terminal is one of the main hubs distributing fuel to smaller terminals across Flores, receiving supply from the Tenau terminal in Kupang. It also supplies aviation fuel to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo, a major gateway for tourists visiting Komodo National Park. Currently, that aviation fuel supply is being temporarily rerouted from the Bima terminal in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Flores has three other operating terminals — in Ende, Larantuka, and Maumere — all of which remain functional. Following the earthquake, ten 16-kiloliter tanker trucks carrying Pertalite and Biosolar fuel, plus one aviation fuel tanker, were dispatched from Bima to Labuan Bajo to ensure continued fuel delivery to local gas stations.
