Bali's Saka Museum at AYANA Opens Exhibition on Kamasan, the Island's Classic Painting Tradition

Saka Museum, located within AYANA Bali in Jimbaran, is presenting the exhibition 'KAMASAN: The Noble Tradition of Balinese Painting' from August 28, 2026 through May 30, 2027. Kamasan, named after a village in East Bali's Klungkung regency, is a classical painting style that flourished under the Gelgel dynasty in the 16th century and draws on Balinese Hindu epics and mythology. It was designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Indonesian government in 2015.

This marks the first exhibition in Saka Museum's new gallery space, featuring more than 30 works ranging from the late 19th century to the present, including ritual cloths, lontar (palm-leaf manuscripts), astrological calendars, and paintings by master artists passed down through generations, alongside contemporary reinterpretations by younger artists. The final section highlights the work of Mangku Muriati, a female artist who is also a temple priestess.

Throughout the exhibition period, the museum will host talks, workshops, and children's programs. The museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM with no closing days, and tickets can be purchased through the official website.
