Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport Cancels Over a Dozen Flights Due to Anak Krakatau Eruption
Increased volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau has caused more than a dozen flight cancellations and schedule changes at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport, mainly affecting Jakarta routes. Airport operations otherwise continue normally, but affected passengers face disruption.
Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport announced on a recent Sunday that it had canceled or adjusted more than a dozen flights to and from Jakarta (CGK) and Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP) airports due to increased volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau.
According to an airport spokesperson, as of 10:00 a.m. local time that day, five arriving flights from Jakarta to Bali—operated by TransNusa and Indonesia AirAsia—had been canceled. On the departure side, a total of 12 flights from Bali to Jakarta and Halim were canceled or delayed, including a Pelita Air flight from the previous night. One Garuda Indonesia flight (GA403) was only delayed, not canceled.
Airport operator Angkasa Pura Indonesia said it is coordinating closely with airlines and Indonesia's air navigation authority, AirNav Indonesia, to monitor the affected airspace and update flight schedules. Overall airport operations remain normal, the airport stated.
The airport has set up a service recovery system for passengers of affected flights who are already at the terminal.
