Bali's Five-Star Hotel Occupancy Surges as Quality of Foreign Tourists Rises
According to Bali's statistics agency (BPS), star-rated hotel occupancy reached 64.87% in June 2026, up 3.71 points from the previous month. Five-star hotels recorded the highest occupancy at 72.34%, with officials attributing the rise to an increase in higher-spending foreign tourists despite a slight overall decline in visitor numbers.
Bali's statistics agency (BPS Bali) reported that the occupancy rate (TPK) of star-rated hotels reached 64.87% in June 2026, up 3.71 percentage points month-on-month and 0.21 points year-on-year.
BPS Bali chief Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan said five-star hotels recorded the highest occupancy at 72.34%, followed by two-star hotels at 63.96%, four-star at 60.95%, three-star at 58.22%, and one-star at 45.96%.
He noted that while overall tourist arrivals had slightly declined compared to the previous year, occupancy rates were improving, with the most notable increase seen in the five-star category. This suggests that although fewer tourists are visiting, those who do are spending more, driving up occupancy at higher-end properties.
The trend points to a shift in the spending profile of foreign visitors to Bali, benefiting the luxury hotel sector in particular. Meanwhile, lower occupancy at one-star and three-star hotels suggests the benefits of this shift are not evenly distributed across all price segments.
Things to Consider
With rising occupancy at five-star hotels, rooms may become harder to book during peak seasons or weekends, so travelers should consider booking well in advance once travel dates are set. Budget-conscious visitors may find better availability and value at one-star or three-star hotels, which currently show relatively lower occupancy.
