Bali Tourism Ministry Promotes Slow Travel in Ubud, Sanur, Sidemen, and Jatiluwih
Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism is promoting 'slow travel' through quieter Bali destinations including Ubud, Sanur, Sidemen, and Jatiluwih, aiming to offer visitors deeper cultural and natural experiences as part of sustainable tourism efforts.
Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism has announced plans to promote 'slow travel' through quieter areas of Bali, encouraging visitors to explore Ubud (Gianyar), Sanur (Denpasar), Sidemen (Karangasem), and Jatiluwih (Tabanan) for a deeper, more relaxed experience.
Ubud is known for its arts, spirituality, and cultural traditions amid rice fields and river valleys, offering galleries and cultural classes. Sanur offers calm beaches away from Bali's busier nightlife, ideal for walking or cycling along the coast.
Sidemen features terraced rice fields with views of Mount Agung, along with traditional farming and weaving experiences. Jatiluwih, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcases extensive rice terraces managed through Bali's traditional Subak irrigation system.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said slow travel encourages visitors to appreciate Bali's culture while preserving its natural beauty, strengthening the island's position in sustainable global tourism. The government plans to continue promoting eco-friendly travel experiences to attract conscious international travelers.
Things to Consider
Travelers seeking to avoid crowded tourist areas can consider day trips or overnight stays in Sidemen or Jatiluwih in addition to Ubud and Sanur. Choosing eco-friendly or traditional accommodations helps support local communities. Since public transport is limited in rural areas, arrange a rental car, motorbike, or driver in advance and allow extra travel time.
