Bali Ride-Hailing Driver Praised for Refusing Passenger Without Helmet

Indonesia's state-owned traffic accident insurance company, Jasa Raharja, has praised a Bali-based online motorbike taxi (ojol) driver for canceling a ride after a foreign national (WNA) passenger refused to wear a helmet.

The incident drew public attention after the driver shared his experience on his personal social media account, @alvesgodino. In the video, he explained that the passenger refused to wear a helmet, so he stuck to his 'No Helmet, No Ride' principle and canceled the trip. As a result, his driver account was suspended from receiving orders for one day, affecting his income.

Jasa Raharja president director Muhammad Awaluddin said safety must never be compromised for any reason, stressing that helmet use for both drivers and passengers is not merely an administrative obligation but a basic protection proven to reduce the risk of serious injury and death from traffic accidents.

Abdillah, head of Jasa Raharja's Bali regional office, added that traffic safety should be a shared responsibility and a culture, especially in Bali as an international tourist destination. He called on all members of the public, including tourists active in Bali, to respect and follow applicable traffic regulations.

The case serves as a reminder for foreign tourists using ride-hailing motorbike taxis in Bali that helmet use is not optional but a firmly enforced safety requirement, and drivers may refuse service if passengers do not comply.
