Bali Police Report 161 Cases Involving Foreigners as Suspects, 239 as Victims in 2026
Bali Police reported 161 criminal cases in 2026 involving 182 foreign nationals as suspects, while 218 cases involved 239 foreigners as victims. The report also revealed a shortage of investigators affecting case handling capacity.
The Bali Police Chief reported that in 2026, 161 criminal cases involved 182 foreign nationals (WNA) as suspects. The announcement was made during a working visit by Commission III of Indonesia's House of Representatives to Bali Police Headquarters in Denpasar.
Separately, 218 cases involving 239 foreigners as victims were also recorded, highlighting that foreigners are involved in criminal matters both as perpetrators and victims in Bali.
Overall, Bali Police received 4,309 cases throughout 2026, with 2,390 (about 55%) resolved. In traffic-related matters, 6,646 cases were recorded from January to August 2026, with 4,130 (about 62%) resolved. Common general crimes included theft, assault, and embezzlement, while special crimes covered oil and gas, animal quarantine, and trademark violations.
Among narcotics seizures, the largest amounts recorded in 2026 were 45.6 kg of marijuana, 28.1 kg of methamphetamine, and 7.7 kg of cocaine.
The report also noted a shortage of investigators: against an ideal requirement of 2,009 investigators and assistant investigators, only 1,684 positions are currently filled, leaving a shortfall of 325 personnel. The Police Chief said limitations in personnel and infrastructure remain under continuous evaluation, while efforts continue to improve investigator competency through training, certification, and specialized education.
