Bali Governor Proposes Holding 2028 Bali Arts Festival at New Klungkung Cultural Center
Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced that the core zone of the Bali Cultural Center project in Klungkung is targeted for completion in 2027, and proposed holding the 50th Bali Arts Festival (PKB) there in 2028. He noted that the current venue, Denpasar's Art Center, can no longer accommodate the growing number of visitors.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster stated at a plenary session marking the 68th anniversary of Bali Province, held in Denpasar on August 14, 2026, that the core zone of the Bali Cultural Center under construction in Klungkung is expected to be completed by 2027. In light of this, he proposed that the 50th Pesta Kesenian Bali (Bali Arts Festival, PKB), scheduled for 2028, be held at the center's core zone.
According to Koster, the Denpasar Art Center (Taman Budaya Provinsi Bali), which has traditionally hosted PKB, can no longer adequately accommodate the growing number of visitors. He said the new Klungkung cultural center, with its larger capacity, could serve as the venue for major events going forward, while the Art Center would be used for medium-scale and regular activities.
The Klungkung cultural center is also envisioned as a potential venue for international-scale music concerts. Koster said he has frequently been approached by both domestic and international event organizers proposing to hold their shows in Bali, expressing hope that concerts currently held in Singapore could shift to Bali instead.
At this stage, the 2028 plan remains a proposal ("wacana"), and details could change depending on the progress of construction toward the 2027 completion target.
