Australian Man Detained at Ngurah Rai Airport Over Alleged Indecent Act in North Kuta
Following a video showing an alleged indecent act in North Kuta, Badung, that went viral on social media, immigration authorities identified an Australian national (initials BA) and detained him at Ngurah Rai International Airport as he attempted to leave Indonesia on Aug 25. He was handed over to Badung Police for legal processing.
According to Balijani.id, a video showing an alleged indecent act in the yard of a residence in North Kuta, Badung Regency, went viral on social media on Saturday, August 23. In response, the Intelligence and Enforcement Team (Inteldakim) of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office coordinated with North Kuta Police to investigate, and identified an Australian national (initials BA) through the immigration information system (SIMKIM).
Immigration authorities flagged the individual as a "Subject of Interest" (SOI) in the system. On Tuesday, August 25, around noon local time, the system triggered a hit as BA attempted to depart from the departure terminal at Ngurah Rai International Airport. Immigration officers, coordinating with airport checkpoint staff and Badung Police, swiftly detained him. He was subsequently handed over to Badung Police for further legal proceedings.
Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Head Muhamad Novyandri detailed the timeline, while Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko stressed that public reports of alleged violations by foreign nationals will continue to be followed up quickly and collaboratively. He emphasized strengthening border control through intelligence, technology, and cross-agency cooperation, and urged the public to report suspected immigration violations or crimes by foreigners through official immigration channels or the nearest immigration office.
