Anak Krakatau Volcano at Alert Level as Volcanic Ash Disrupts Jakarta-Bali Flights

An eruption at Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait, has released volcanic ash causing disruptions to air travel across Indonesia. The volcano's alert status currently stands at Level III (Siaga/Alert), and Indonesia's Geological Agency, under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), is continuously monitoring the situation.

According to reports, eight domestic airports have been temporarily closed as a result, with ash conditions being checked every 30 minutes. Bali's main gateway, Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, remains operational, but five Jakarta-Bali flights have been cancelled due to the disruption. Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is also monitoring potential tsunami risk in the Sunda Strait area related to the eruption.

Authorities are encouraging the public to use MAGMA Indonesia, a free official app and website (Multiplatform Application for Geohazard Mitigation and Assessment in Indonesia), to track real-time volcanic activity. On the map, color-coded icons indicate alert levels (green = Level I Normal, yellow = Level II Waspada, orange = Level III Siaga), though animated icons alone do not necessarily indicate an active eruption—users are advised to rely on official status updates rather than visual cues alone. Air quality in affected regions can also be checked via Google Maps.
