AirNav Indonesia and Boeing Sign Agreement to Study Operational Optimization at Ngurah Rai Airport
AirNav Indonesia and Boeing have signed a Letter of Intent to jointly study ways to optimize aircraft ground movements and runway capacity at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport. On September 15, 2026, AirNav Indonesia and Boeing signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) in Jakarta to conduct a joint study on optimizing aircraft operations at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport. The signing ceremony was attended by AirNav Indonesia President Director Capt. Avirianto Suratno, senior Boeing executives, officials from Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation, representatives from Angkasa Pura Indonesia, and various airlines.
The agreement builds on a 2023 Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations covering airspace management, training, and strategic air traffic planning. The new study will use Boeing's Total Airspace and Airport Modeller (TAAM) simulation tool, analyzing 24 hours of actual flight schedule data to model current airport operations, including both east-flow and west-flow runway configurations. The modeling will produce statistical data and four-dimensional (4D) visualizations.
Subsequent steps include on-site observations by subject matter experts at the air traffic control tower, radar facilities, ground handling operations centers, and airport planning units, which will inform recommendations for operational improvements.
At this stage, the initiative remains a research and feasibility study; there are no immediate changes to flight schedules or airport operations. However, if implemented, improvements to runway efficiency and reduced ground congestion could eventually benefit travelers and residents through fewer delays.
