78 Divers from 19 Countries Compete in Underwater Photo-Video World Championship in Bali

The 2026 CMAS World Championship for Underwater Photo and Video opened in Pemuteran Village, Buleleng, Bali, with 78 divers from 19 countries competing across 10 categories. The event takes place at several dive sites including Biorock and Napoleon Reef.

The 2026 CMAS World Championship Underwater Photo and Video opened on October 5, 2026, in Pemuteran Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency, Bali. The event is organized by the Indonesian Diving Sports Association (PB POSSI), a member of the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS).

The opening ceremony was attended by CMAS Visual Commission Director Kerim Sabuncuoglu, PB POSSI Chairman Comr. Gen. Pol. Makhruzi Rahman, and KONI (Indonesian National Olympic Committee) Chairman Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Marciano Norman, along with CMAS delegates.

A total of 78 divers from 19 countries are competing across 10 categories: seven photo categories (Fish, Theme, Close-Up, Wide Angle without diver, Wide Angle with diver, Creative, and Smart Device) and three video categories (Creative Movie, Theme Movie, and 60 Second Video).

Divers are shooting at several underwater sites around Pemuteran, including the Biorock area, Agung Prana Reef Conservation, Napoleon Reef, and Bio Wreck.

Makhruzi said hosting the championship in Pemuteran offers participants a distinctive experience beyond the photo and video competition itself, allowing them to also enjoy Balinese arts, culture, and local wisdom. The event is part of PB POSSI's broader effort to showcase Indonesia's diving potential and underwater richness to the global diving community.

Things to Consider

Diving enthusiasts planning to visit sites around Pemuteran (such as Biorock or Napoleon Reef) during the championship should check with local dive operators in advance about availability and any access restrictions. Tourists may also want to check with hotels or local tourism offices for accompanying cultural events held alongside the competition.
